Mental Health Research and Development Unit for playing

The School for Health is committed to understanding mental health and wellbeing and to carrying out research with other members of the Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences. How best to achieve this is currently under discussion; this website will be updated when the discussions have taken place.
In the meantime, please read the existing website below and visit the links for information on the research projects.

About the organization

The Mental Health Research and Development Unit (MHRDU) undertakes important research, evaluation and development in all areas of mental health, specialising in four key areas:
Working closely with service users, carers, practitioners and clinicians, we consider our work to be a synthesis of practice and research and we aim to:
  • Encourage mental health practitioners to develop research interests and skills
  • Encourage academics to develop a greater interest in mental health;
  • Work in collaboration with academics, clinicians, practitioners based within Universities, the NHS and statutory and voluntary agencies
  • Develop tools and interventions for use by mental health professionals
  • Produce work which adds to the evidence base and which can influences policy and practice.
Our high quality work integrates qualitative and quantitative methods of research and analysis and provides a holistic picture of the phenomena being studied. We have extensive experience in research consultation, the production of clear and comprehensive reports, publications in peer-reviewed journals and conference presentations - most importantly, we are able to make a real difference to those experiencing and working with mental health problems.
